Despite the lack of 'professional' education, I have achieved a reputation as a unique voice among Armenian photographers. Trained as an actor at the State Theatre Institute in Yerevan, my work embraces the medium's propensity toward performative expression. As such, I stand apart from both the documentary and conceptual tendencies prevalent in Armenian photography, exploring some of the modernist traditions instead, more in line with his formalist approach. Utilizing the ability of the camera to transform the contextual parameters of space, I unlock the dramatic potential of my locations - with or without the use of models. A key feature in my work is the investigation of the relationship between the human body and architecture.
